Compression of soft-body animation sequences
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe a compression scheme for the geometry component of 3D animation sequences. This scheme is based on the principle component analysis (PCA) method, which represents the animation sequence using a small number of basis functions. Second-order linear prediction coding (LPC) is applied to the PCA coefficients in order to further reduce the code size by exploiting the temporal coherence present in the sequence. Our results show that applying LPC to the PCA scheme results in significant performance improvements relative to other coding methods. The use of these codes will make animated 3D data more accessible for graphics and visualization applications. r 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Developing EFL Learners' Oral Proficiency through Animation-based Instruction of English Formulaic Sequences
The current pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study attempts, firstly, to probe the effects of teaching formulaic sequences (FSs) on the second or foreign language (L2) learners' oral proficiency improvement and secondly, to examine whether teaching FSs through different resources (i.e. animation vs. text-based readings) have any differentially influential effects in augmenting L2 l...
متن کاملMPEG-4 facial animation in video analysis and synthesis
MPEG-4 supports the definition, encoding, transmission, and animation of 3-D head and body models. These features can be used for a variety of different applications ranging from low bit-rate video coding to character and avatar animation. In this paper, an entire system for the analysis of facial expressions from image sequences and their synthesis is presented. New methods for the estimation ...
متن کامل3D Body Animation and Coding within a MPEG-4 Compliant Framework
Referring to the new functionality of video access and coding, the work presented here lies within the scope of MPEG-4 activities related to Face and Body Animation (FBA). Specifically, we show how the new MPEG-4 standard offers an appropriate framework for virtual actor animation, gesture synthesis and compression/transmission. The targeted multimedia service concerns a low bit rate video-phon...
متن کاملFrom Images To Animation Models
We show that we can effectively fit complex animation models to noisy image data. Thus, complete head models can be acquired with a cheap and entirely passive sensor. The shape and motion parameters of limbs can be similarly captured and fed to existing animation software to produce synthetic sequences. In this paper, we show that we can effectively fit complex facial and body animation models ...
متن کاملA Tool Kit to Generate 3D Animated CAESAR Bodies
The Civilian American and European Surface Anthropometry Resource (CAESAR) database provides a comprehensive source for body measurement in numerous industries such as apparel, aerospace, and automobile. Generating animated CAESAR body sequences from still surface and landmark data will stimulate research and design in these areas. A tool kit has been developed to convert CAESAR bodies to model...
